LPS Oakland R&D is a tuition-free public charter high school committed to preparing 100% of our graduates for college, career, and leadership in their communities.

We offer a close-knit, safe, and supportive environment where students are challenged academically and supported personally—every step of the way.

Our Approach

At LPS Oakland R&D, students follow a rigorous college-prep (A–G) curriculum with a strong focus on analytical writing, problem solving, and real-world application. We take a whole-child approach, nurturing not just academics but also character, mindset, and leadership.

Signature Programs

Freshman Summer Retreat

Our Freshman Summer Retreat welcomes incoming 9th graders with team-building experiences, college-readiness workshops, and community-building activities that set the tone for a strong start at LPS Oakland.

Career Technical Education

Our Digital Multimedia Arts Pathway equips students with the creative, technical, and entrepreneurial skills to thrive in the digital age—blending design, marketing, and artificial intelligence to produce innovative media.

Dual Enrollment with Peralta Colleges

LPS Oakland students earn free college credit and gain early exposure to higher education through our on-campus dual enrollment courses with the Peralta Community College District.

Athletics

Our athletics program, offered in partnership with Castlemont HS, gives students the opportunity to build community across both campuses, develop leadership and teamwork, and compete at a highly competitive district level.

Student-Led Clubs

Embedded within the school day to ensure equitable access for all students, our student-led clubs foster a strong school culture where youth can create, lead, and build community around their passions.
